FAQ

What is Chinplasty (mentoplasty)?

The operation of chinplasty or chin augmentation is the procedure that leads to reform one’s chin so it is more properly matched with the other characteristics of the face.

Are there any other operations that could made at the same time with the chin augmentation?

It is usually combined with other face interventions such as a rhinoplasty, fat-sucking or face lift so we can talk about a total change in one’s profile.

How is the surgery being performed?

Chin augmentation is being done by putting an implant in the chin area through the mouth or by making a small external section on the chin skin.

How much time does it take and what sort of anesthesia is needed?

The surgery lasts for about 30 minutes in the simplest of cases, while it could take 2-3 hours when we have a combination of profile surgery. When a profile surgery is being executed then we have additional time needed for the profile surgery. (see related questions). Anesthesia could be local or general. In particular, in cases of profile surgery general anesthesia is recommended.

What comes after the operation?

  • A special bandage is being placed for about 48 hours.
  • A slight swelling could appear on the area, as also a small inconvenience which goes away with usual painkillers.
  • The patient could leave the clinic the same night or the morning after.
  • In profile surgery we recommend staying in the clinic for one night.
  • For about a week’s time soft food is suggested.
  • Someone could return to work within 7 days.
  • The results are immediately visible but you can see the final picture in about 1-1,5month.
  • When there is a combination with rhinoplasty then instructions concerning this operation should be followed as previously mentioned (see related questions).
